Futtypore Sikri; The Elephant Tower, Seen through the Elephant Gate
Product Description
A reproduction of a 19th-century photograph by Samuel Bourne (English, 1834–1912), originally captured around 1864–66.
Photographed from the threshold of the Elephant Gate at Fatehpur Sikri, this image frames the Hiran Minar—the Elephant Tower—through a tall, pointed archway carved from red sandstone. The tower’s distinctive protrusions, often described as tusk-like, rise in the distance, giving the composition a quiet but striking symmetry. Two figures stand near the base of the gate, offering a sense of scale and grounding the monument’s vast architectural presence. Bourne’s vantage point turns the gate into a natural frame, guiding the viewer’s eye toward the tower and capturing the layered spatial drama of Akbar’s once-imperial city.
Framed in yellow pine wood with an oil finish, handcrafted and assembled at our Lahore studio.
