Product Description

A reproduction of a 19th-century photograph by Samuel Bourne (English, 1834–1912), originally captured around 1864–66.

Amritsar—the Golden Temple, or Sri Harmandir Sahib—rising from the center of its sacred water tank. The temple’s gilded dome and clustered chattris catch the light, their reflections softening in the still surface below. A narrow causeway links the shrine to the surrounding complex, emphasizing its position as both physically and spiritually set apart. Along the edge of the water, small figures pause—some seated, others standing—suggesting the quiet movement of visitors and worshippers. Their presence adds a gentle rhythm to the scene, reminding us that this sanctuary was, even then, a living space of devotion rather than a silent monument.

Framed in yellow pine wood with an oil finish, handcrafted and assembled at our Lahore studio.
